Evidence Generating Medicine: Leveraging Informatics to Enable a Learning Health System
Dr. Embi will summarize the findings of the day’s talks and put them in context. As he does, he will describe the emerging concept of “Evidence Generating Medicine” as a counterpart to “Evidence Based Medicine” to enable what the United States Institute of Medicine has termed the Learning Health System. He will describe how Health IT and Informatics solutions and advances can enable not only improvements in healthcare and the health of patients and populations, but also advances in the science of medicine to improve health and healthcare into the future.

Dr. Embi joined the Medical Center in 2010 from the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center where he was Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director of Biomedical Informatics in the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training. He has served as an adjunct assistant professor in Ohio State's Department of Biomedical Informatics since 2008. He is also the founding director of the Center for Health Informatics at the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center.
Dr. Embi is an internationally recognized researcher and educator in the field of clinical research informatics, with numerous publications and presentations describing his innovations in the field. Dr. Embi has received numerous awards for his distinguished work in rheumatology including the 2008 Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals President's Award. He currently serves on the American College of Rheumatology's board of directors. In 2008 he was elected as a fellow in the American College of Physicians.​
